A short walk through the temple grounds

EYE-OPENING AT THE TEMPLE

How long does it take, and what do you pay?

On this visit: about 10 minutes from registration to completion; ¥1,000 offered. These are one visitor's experience, not a fixed duration or a recommended contribution.

What happened on our visit

We bought a daruma at Shorinzan Darumaji and registered for eye-opening on site.
A priest chanted and placed a small dot in one eye.
Afterwards, we were invited to make an okimochi contribution and offered ¥1,000. We had not known how much to offer.

The whole process took about 10 minutes on this occasion. Same-day availability and waiting time can vary; ask at the desk before making plans around it.

What the temple says about the amount

The temple sets no fixed eye-opening contribution: visitors decide the amount. A daruma without the temple's prayer certificate requires a separate ¥1,000 prayer fee per doll, in addition to the eye-opening contribution. That conditional fee is not a general ¥1,000 price for eye-opening.

The temple also explains that the priest makes the first dot; you then enlarge the eye yourself at home while making your wish.
